Helpful Resources for New Moms

“Becoming a Mother is one of the most profound changes you will experience in your life. This time of change can be very disorientating and overwhelming, requiring you to adapt, and re-examine yourself and your life. This enormous challenge provides us with the most profound opportunity: to re-discover and connect with an internal strength and wisdom we had forgotten we possessed. When we do this we are guided to find a place in our lives where we are happy and contented as mothers and as women, and we become confident, calm and conscious parents (Lindy Bruce, author of Motherhood and Me .”

Having experienced and witnessed how confusing it can for new moms to try and read everything they can get their hands on about parenting, I have attempted to keep this page simple and useful. I have listed a few excellent resources below.

Baby care info

1. www.AskDrSears.com (website)

2. The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Baby from Birth to Age Two (Revised and Updated Edition)

Breastfeeding

1. La Leche League international (Website)

2. The Breastfeeding Book: Everything You Need to Know About Nursing Your Child from Birth Through Weaning

Developmental Info

1. Download this brochure (PDF file format) from the Pathways Awareness Foundation - a guide for tracking your Baby's Physical Development

2. Your Baby and Child: From Birth to Age Five (Revised Edition)

All of this information can be found almost anywhere (books, internet, library, friends).

A great way to get it is to join a class when you are pregnant and learn about babycare and breastfeeding. Contact your local birth hospital to find out what classes they offer.

Or join a mothers group once your baby arrives. This way you will meet other expectant moms in your community (essential supports) and have someone to call when you need to ask a question or just need reassurance that you are doing okay.
